There is a nifty little trick in PayPal that lets you create a PayPal button, any kind of PayPal button, and then instead of actually using the button itself you can get a simple link that will do all the same stuff.
Why the heck would you want to do that? Well, perhaps you have a custom button already in use on your website and you want to keep everything looking streamlined. Now you can!
Or, maybe you want to use the link in an email instead of on your site.
You can use a link instead of a button on any of the buttons that you create, Buy Now, Add to Cart, Subscriptions, etc. etc. Here’s how you do it:
- Create your button in PayPal like always
- When you get to the final screen where it’s showing you the chunk of code that you are supposed to copy and paste for your button, you’ll notice there is a second tab at the top of that code box that says “Email” – click on this and voila! You’ll see the single line of code that is your link.
Easy peasy!
Thank you! Exactly the info I needed!
Glad I could help!
Thank you so much, very easy directions and easy to do!! This was exactly what I was looking for 🙂

You’re welcome!
Mine doesn’t have an “email” tab. PLEASE HELP!
Hi Alesha,
I believe you need to have a Business or Premier account before you can see the Email tab, or if you’ve used “options” (a.k.a. A drop down list in your product) then you won’t be able to see the Email tab either as more complicated code is required.
This was exactly what I want to do since I’m having a problem posting a Buy Now button on Meetup.com for people who are not members, but all I see is the ‘Website’ tab, no ‘Email’ tab on PayPal. Obviously it was working in June so I’m confused. Do you know if that option has been removed? Thank you!
Hi Kara,
Like I had mentioned below I believe you need to have a Business or Premier account before you can see the Email tab, or if you’ve used “options” (a.k.a. A drop down list in your product) then you won’t be able to see the Email tab either as more complicated code is required.
Hope that helps!
It’s amazing how you look and look without finding a solution. Then once you find it, it seems so simple.
This works perfectly on ASP.NET pages since the whole page is essentially 1 form and of course you cannot nest form tags.
Thanks for the great tip that I couldn’t find even on PayPal’s site.
Thank you so much! Glad I found your site quickly so that I can get the link I needed..totally missed the Email tab after I created the button!!
Great solution to my current problem.
