For those of you that have a Mac and are wishing you could use a screen capture program like Camtasia that records your voice along with what’s happening on your computer screen, I have found the solution!

May I present my new favourite program, Jing, and it’s lovely assistant, Screencast.  My wish has been granted!  And better yet, they’re both free to use – yay!

With Jing you can take a simple screenshot, or you can create a video of your computer screen and record your voice at the same time.  Need to explain how to do something to someone far away, and don’t want to have to create a huge step-by-step document?  Why not show them how to do it instead!  Show and tell, what a concept.

Once you’ve created your recording you can upload it to Screencast, which is also free to use.  With Screencast you’ll have a handy place to store all of your nifty recordings; just send the link of any given recording or folder (links are automatically provided by Screencast) to whomever you wish, and voila!  Other folks can easily view your recordings online, no need for any specific programs or downloading.  Sweet!

It doesn’t get any easier than that.  There is also a Pro version now that allows you to record your videos in multiple formats and have more storage/bandwidth space, so it all depends on how you plan on using these programs and your own specific needs.  I myself use the free version and it works just fine and dandy for me.

So, go ahead and check out Jing and Screencast, both excellent programs.  Jing is even available for PC users, not just Mac, so now everyone is happy!

Have you tried either of these programs before?  I’d love to hear how you like or dislike them, what you use them for, etc….
