Well now I’ve come up with a few other ideas and they just keep coming! it’s a fun thing to do when you’re cooped up inside in winter time and the snow just won’t stop.

Here is another photo of something that pretty much created itself – I love it when that happens! She doesn’t have a name, she is a worm lady, and for some reason she seems to think she’s absolutely gorgeous!

I found a super simple way to quickly add an image to an mp3 file:

Drag and drop the mp3 file into iTunes

Go find your mp3 file (it’s probably in your Recently Added section)

Select your mp3

Hit Command + i (if you’re on a Mac) or right-click and select Get Info

Click on the Artwork tab along the top

Click the Add button, select the file you want to use for your image, resize it in the box, and click the OK button

If you’re wanting to use this file somewhere other than iTunes you can drag and drop the file onto your desktop and you’ll see the image is still there showing as the file icon.

Voila!

I’m not entirely sure of the answer yet, but I’ve asked around and it looks like I have one of two choices:

1. I can either create a new custom page template in WordPress, create a fresh new page and then stuff my html into it, then set this new page as my Homepage.

2. Apparently there are plugins out there that help you to create a splashpage, although I haven’t done a bunch of research in this area yet so I can’t tell you which plugins they are.

My initial thought is that I will want more control than a plugin will give me, and I’m such a coding geek that control is very important! I’m at home in code, I find it interesting, and I want to be able to make it do exactly what I want it to do.

But I’m not totally set in my ways, I’d love to hear everyone’s opinion on which method is the best way to add a static html page to a wordpress site.

What do you think?

I bought myself a wee piece of Scotland, which makes me an actual Scottish landowner, which makes me an official Lady! How fun!

I found a website called Highland Titles and that’s where it all started, and I am now contributing to the reforestation of a very important (in my mind anyways) part of the world. I am a MacGregor you know!

So, I’ve created a new blog to discuss all things Scottish, to research my heritage, and to discover what being a Lady really means and how it all relates to me, and I’d love it if you checked it out and commented: http://www.totherescue.ca/ladysarah/

The best news is that you too can be a Laird/Lord/Lady! Check out Highland Titles and keep reading my Lady Sarah blog to get all the info.

Enjoy!

There is a nifty little trick in PayPal that lets you create a PayPal button, any kind of PayPal button, and then instead of actually using the button itself you can get a simple link that will do all the same stuff.

Why the heck would you want to do that? Well, perhaps you have a custom button already in use on your website and you want to keep everything looking streamlined. Now you can!

Or, maybe you want to use the link in an email instead of on your site.

You can use a link instead of a button on any of the buttons that you create, Buy Now, Add to Cart, Subscriptions, etc. etc. Here’s how you do it:

Create your button in PayPal like always

When you get to the final screen where it’s showing you the chunk of code that you are supposed to copy and paste for your button, you’ll notice there is a second tab at the top of that code box that says “Email” – click on this and voila! You’ll see the single line of code that is your link.

Easy peasy!

I recently had a client who had just gotten a new flyer made up for her business by her graphic designer, and it looked great. It had references to all of her events, contact info, everything.

We wanted to have the same information on the website, but instead of trying to recreate the graphic designer’s great work it was a much simpler solution to simply use the flyer itself as an image. But even better, wouldn’t it be great if we could add links to the appropriate event pages wherever that event was mentioned in the flyer?

It’s super simple to do and here’s how:

1. Add the image to your webpage, make the image a link and include ISMAP at the very end of the tag. The link can be left blank, here’s an example:

<a href=”"><img source=”url of your image” ISMAP /></a>

2. Go look at your webpage with this image on it and when you hover over the spot where you want a link to be, make a note of the coordinates that will show up in the bottom left corner of your browser.

3. Go back to your image and get rid of the link and ISMAP, we don’t need either of them anymore, just a regular image.

4. Add a reference to your map within the image tag – it can be whatever name you want. For example:

<img source=”url of your image” alt=”alt text goes here” usemap=”#mapname” />

5. Now on a line below your image tag define your map:

<map name=”mapname”>
<area shape=”rect” coords=”x1, y1, x2, y2″ href=”url of the link you want to point to” alt=”alt text here” />
<area shape=”rect” coords=”x1, y1, x2, y2″ href=”url of the link you want to point to” alt=”alt text here” />
</map>

Done!

There can be other shapes as well, doesn’t have to always be a rectangle but that often makes the most sense for links.

So everyone who is looking at your webpage will see just an image, but when they hover over one of the areas that you’ve mapped as a link they’ll see the usual change in cursor, and when they click on that area they’ll be taken to whatever link you’ve specified.

Super easy! And super slick too!

Holy smokes, it’s fall, we live in Bear country, we have some fruit trees, and you know what that means!

Okay maybe not too many folks know what that means these days, but basically it means we’re up to our eyeballs and beyond with processing, canning, juicing, etc. everything from our trees. Two apple trees, one plum tree, and one crab apple tree – doesn’t sound like too much does it?

But, when you’ve only got two people working on it all, and those two people also work during the daytime, it most definitely escalates to Holy Smokes pretty darn quick! What the heck do you do with all this stuff anyways? We’d better think of something quick because they aren’t going to keep forever either.

I suppose it’s a pretty sweet life when all we have to worry about is being tired from a month or so of processing our home grown food, eh? But still, it’s our first year and we’re still getting the hang of it all, and now I can definitely see why folks used to have so many darn kids! Put ‘em to work, that’s what they’re for! No such luck for us. *sigh*
