I don’t know about you folks but I have been so irritated with that automatic PDF reader that’s suddenly attached to Firefox.  I much prefer to have the choice of whether I want to save the darn thing or open it right away, and I certainly don’t want it to open the pdf for me in some weird looking viewer right over top of the page that I’ve been browsing on.  How silly!

So I finally researched how to turn the darn thing off and turns out it’s not that hard at all.

  1. Type about:config in your Firefox address bar – you’ll see a warning page come up saying “This might void your warranty!” – just ignore it, obviously you don’t have a warranty on Firefox anyways and it’s just a reminder to be careful when dilly-dallying with preferences.
  2. Search for the preference called pdfjs.disabled and set the value to true

If you want to go even farther and set up the ability to choose how Firefox handles what happens when you click on a file, follow these instructions too: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-firefox-behavior-when-open-file

Ah, at last!  That’s much better, I’m back in control!  Hmmm, did I just reveal myself as a control freak?  Possibly.
