Not 5 minutes ago I just ran into a situation that makes me cringe – why wasn’t I more organized?

I know, I know, those of you that know me are probably thinking something along the lines of, “That’s impossible!  Could SMac be more organized?”

But it’s true, these things happen to the best of us.  Here’s what just happened:

One of my husband’s clients was just leaving and they stopped to ask me about my business – Hooray!  That’s always a good thing.  She then goes on to ask if I can give her some info on my upcoming classes and immediately an image pops into my head of a neat little document that I created a few weeks ago that beautifully laid out all the upcoming classes, their dates/descriptions/etc., EVERYTHING.  Perfect!  “I’ll be right back” I say to this lovely lady.

Well, I get into my office thinking I’m going to print off this awesome document for her, but when I start to look for it I can’t find it anywhere!  I know that I made this thing, gosh darnit, but I don’t want to spend too much time looking for it and making her wait.  In the end it wasn’t where I thought it should be and I ended up giving her a generic brochure instead.

So, at least I was organized enough to have the brochure handy, that was good.  But being the perfectionist that I am I wanted to give her exactly what she wanted, not just a generic brochure.

Of course as soon as she left I took an extra 2 minutes and did find the darn document, in a semi-logical place I might add.  However, I don’t want to run into this problem ever again, and so I’m going to create a new folder that is right at the top called Up To Date Class Info (or something to that effect), and from this point on I’m going to make sure that it holds everything that anyone might want or need with regards to my classes so that there is only one place that I will have to look to find the information.

I suppose this is good reminder to us all that we should always strive to be prepared for anything our business might throw at us.  It’s an ongoing process!
